What This Course Covers

This course is designed for individuals who currently hold a First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification that is approaching its expiry date.

If you hold a valid three-day First Aid at Work certificate, you may attend the two-day requalification course to renew your full FAW qualification. Upon successful completion, your certificate will be extended for a further three years from the date of training.

Attendance Requirements

To be eligible for requalification, the following conditions must be met:

  • A valid FAW certificate must be provided prior to the course. This can be emailed to [email protected].

  • The requalification course must be completed no later than one month after the expiry date of your current qualification.

Please note that once your FAW certificate has expired, you are no longer recognised as a legally qualified first aider in the workplace. This may leave your employer without adequate first aid cover, so we strongly recommend booking your requalification before your certificate expires.

If you have any questions or would like guidance on the most appropriate qualification for your needs, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Qualification

The First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. To maintain your certification, you are required to complete another First Aid at Work requalification course, which consists of a further twelve hours of training.

The FAW qualification is a nationally recognised and accredited award. At First Aid Cardiff, we exceed the minimum standards required by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for first aid training providers.
To learn more about how we meet and surpass these standards, please click here.
For further information on the HSE’s guidance for selecting a first aid training provider, please click here.

Since 2013, the HSE has removed the requirement for first aid qualifications to be externally regulated. That said, certain high-risk or specialist workplaces may still require externally regulated qualifications. If this applies to your organisation, please inform us prior to booking and we will be happy to offer guidance on the most appropriate option.

How We Work

At First Aid Cardiff, we pride ourselves on what we deliver. Our team consists of highly experienced first aid trainers who are also fully qualified educators, enabling us to provide training of an exceptional standard. As a result, our courses consistently meet and exceed the requirements set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

HSE REQUIREMENTS

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the UK authority responsible for setting overarching first aid standards. Over the past decade, the first aid sector has evolved significantly, with techniques continually refined in line with guidance from bodies such as the General Medical Council and the Resuscitation Council. We remain at the forefront of best practice through ongoing review of our training, continuous professional development, and extensive real-world experience. Our instructors bring specialist backgrounds ranging from combat paramedicine to mountain leadership, ensuring training that is both current and practical.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

It is now standard practice for employers to ensure staff are trained in first aid to maintain a safe environment for employees and clients. As first aid requirements vary by industry and workplace risk, we offer a range of courses to suit different needs.

Since changes introduced by the HSE in 2013, responsibility now sits with employers to identify the most appropriate first aid provision for their setting. This should be determined through a workplace risk assessment, which will highlight potential hazards and help identify the correct level of training.

If you are unsure which course is most suitable, we are happy to offer guidance. However, the final decision remains with you, as we are unable to provide legal advice.

OUR PROMISE

All of our first aid courses are delivered in line with the latest guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK and the European Resuscitation Council (ERC). We are fully qualified to provide accredited first aid qualifications and ensure all training meets recognised professional standards.

Our courses are engaging, practical, and tailored to the specific needs of your group. We continually invest in innovative teaching methods and technologies to deliver effective, high-quality training experiences.
