What This Course Covers

Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health

Mental health conditions can affect anyone at any stage of life, including individuals, families, friends, and colleagues. Developing awareness and understanding is an important first step in providing effective support.

This Mental Health Awareness course is designed for participants from all backgrounds. It equips learners with the knowledge to recognise the early signs of a potential mental health concern, approach sensitive conversations with confidence, and guide individuals towards appropriate professional support.

The course is open to all and serves as an accessible introduction to Mental Health First Aid, making it ideal for those new to the subject or seeking to improve their general awareness.

Assessment is completed via a short multiple-choice questionnaire at the end of the course. There are no external assessors, and successful candidates will be awarded the Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health.

Our instructors are highly trained professionals with real-world experience in emergency and support settings, ensuring training is both credible and practical.

For those wishing to explore the subject in greater depth, we also offer one-day and two-day Mental Health First Aid courses, which provide more comprehensive training and qualification options.

Qualification

Your ‘Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health’ qualification is valid for three years from the date of completion. To maintain your certification, you are required to complete another 4 hour, Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health course.

This qualification is a nationally recognised and accredited award. At First Aid Cardiff, we exceed the minimum standards required by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for first aid training providers.

Since 2013, the HSE has removed the requirement for first aid qualifications to be externally regulated. That said, certain high-risk or specialist workplaces may still require externally regulated qualifications. If this applies to your organisation, please inform us prior to booking and we will be happy to offer guidance on the most appropriate option.

First Aid Training Courses For Individuals & Groups

Training 5 or more people? If so, then have you considered a private group?

Private Groups

We are happy to run any of our first aid training courses as private groups at either your venue or one of our training centers in Cardiff. We can run a private group for any number of people, we just have to charge our small group price as a minimum.
