Here at First Aid Cardiff, we offer a variety of paediatric first aid courses tailored to meet the needs of different groups. Each course is designed to equip you with the skills and confidence needed to respond effectively in crisis situations.

Here’s a look at the different options available and who might benefit most from each.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid – 1 Day Course

This course is an essential starting point for anyone who regularly works with or spends significant time around babies and young children. The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course provides fundamental training that is crucial in both working and home environments. Over the span of one day, participants learn how to deal with life-threatening emergencies effectively.

Skills taught include resuscitation techniques, managing wounds and bleeding, handling choking, burns, and epilepsy, as well as the use of AED machines. Tailored specifically for simplicity and immediate application, this course builds a strong foundation in first aid measures that can save lives in critical moments.

Completion of this course awards an Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification, but if you are a teacher or a child minder then please be aware that the 6 hour, 1 day paediatric first aid course only partially fulfils the Ofsted and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements, but full cover is provided by our 2 day course.

Ideal for: Nursery staff, new parents, grandparents, babysitters, and anyone who might need to administer urgent care in a short amount of time.

2 Day Paediatric First Aid – Comprehensive Training

For those whose roles involve extensive responsibility for children’s welfare, the 2 Day Paediatric First Aid course offers comprehensive training. This course includes everything that is taught in the 1-day course but covers a wider range of medical scenarios and more complex first aid techniques. Over two days, participants dive deeper into the nuances of paediatric first aid, including how to handle chronic medical conditions and what to do in case of a severe allergic reaction.

Additionally, this course prepares participants for emergencies that might occur not only in everyday environments but also in less controlled settings, such as during school trips or playgroup outings. With extensive hands-on practice and scenario-based training, attendees leave the course fully prepared to safeguard children’s health and well-being in a variety of situations.

This first aid course will provide you with a nationally recognised Level 3 First Aid Award and exceeds the requirements and criteria as detailed by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted.

Ideal for: Teachers, childminders, crèche workers, playgroup assistants, and anyone in a professional setting involving children.

Parent and Child Emergency Basics

Designed for expectant parents or those with newborns and young infants, the Parent and Child Emergency Basics course focuses on immediate, practical first aid skills that can be applied within the home.

This course addresses the most common emergency situations faced by new parents, including how to place an infant in the recovery position, perform CPR, and manage minor injuries and ailments typical in early childhood such as choking, fevers, dehydration, and head injuries, as well as more serious conditions such as meningitis, seizures, hypothermia and unresponsiveness.

This training is less intensive than our other paediatric first aid courses, but is highly focused, providing vital information quickly and without the need for a significant time commitment. It’s an excellent primer for new or soon-to-be parents and their close relatives or friends who may also be involved in caring for the child.

Ideal for: Expectant parents, new parents, grandparents, and family friends who may need to provide occasional childcare.

Choosing the right paediatric first aid course depends largely on your role and the extent of your responsibility for children. Whether you need a quick overview to prepare for the arrival of a new baby or comprehensive training for professional childcare,we have a course that suits your needs. By investing in paediatric first aid training, you’re not only enhancing your skills but also increasing the safety and well-being of children in your care.
